Josette Ferrer

Josette Ferrer is the founder and a Managing Director of Clairent Advisors. Since 1993, Josette has been assisting clients with the valuation of closely held businesses and business interests, intangible assets, intellectual property, stock options, debt instruments, capital equipment / fixed assets, and other assets. Prior to founding Clairent Advisors, Josette was the U.S. Practice Leader of Marsh’s Valuation Services Group (formerly Kroll’s Valuation Services Practice), and also previously served as the Managing Director in charge of the San Francisco Valuation Services Group of WTAS, Inc., a former subsidiary of HSBC Group. Prior to WTAS, Josette was a director with Huron Consulting Group and a senior manager at Arthur Andersen LLP.

Josette has been responsible for over 500 significant valuation engagements to date. Specific areas of expertise include:

Valuation analyses for financial reporting purposes, including allocations of purchase price related to business combinations, asset / goodwill impairment analyses, and stock option valuations.

Valuation consulting related to tax planning and compliance, including appraisals performed for domestic / international tax planning and estate and gift tax reporting.

Evaluation of intellectual property, including patent and technology monetization, analysis of economic contributions, the development and assessment of strategic alternatives, and patent portfolio mining.

Development of financial opinions such as fairness opinions, solvency opinions, and comfort letters for corporate boards, special committees, and other parties.

Financial advisory services related to companies in the process of restructuring or emerging from bankruptcy, the development of reorganization values and appraisal work for fresh start accounting.

Portfolio valuations, including analyses related to a variety of illiquid investments (distressed debt instruments and private equity investments).

Josette graduated from the Haas School of Business at the University of California at Berkeley with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. She has been a guest speaker for a wide variety of forums, including the Practising Law Institute, the San Francisco Bar Association, BIOCOM, Santa Clara University, and various venture capital roundtables.
